POLOKWANE— Leadership is not declared from an office. It is proven on the ground.

This week Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr Makoro John Mpe, showed what profound leadership looks like. Dressed in orange overalls, he walked the dust of D3472 in Ga-Setati, Ward 15, stood next to the machines, and inspected the road being built with his own eyes.

No speeches from a distance. No promises on paper. Just a leader, with the people, where service delivery happens.But Cllr Mpe did not stop at inspection.

In the same visit, the Mayor turned vision into action. He cut the ribbon and handed over a 22-wheeler truck, two tractors and three double-cab bakkies to municipal teams. Red ribbons. New keys. New capacity.

These are tools of action, not symbols. They are destined for grass-cutting operations, by-law enforcement and security across Polokwane — the daily work that makes a city run.

Standing beside the new fleet, and later sitting behind the wheel of the 22-wheeler, the Mayor sent a clear message: "When the challenge is on the ground, the response must also be on the ground. Today you see tar. Tomorrow you see grass cut, by-laws enforced, and our security teams moving. That is what it means to be a Naturally Progressive city."

LEADERSHIP IN ACTION: Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe behind the wheel of the newly delivered 22-wheeler. The truck, along with 2 tractors and 3 bakkies, will be used for road maintenance, grass-cutting and security across Polokwane.

This project visit is part of the City’s "Reaga Polokwane" programme — to rebuild, restore and deliver. Community members walked with the Mayor. They saw the road layers. They saw the new vehicles. They heard directly from a leader who does not delegate presence.

"Infrastructure without capacity is just a plan," Cllr Mpe told residents. "We are building roads, and we are giving our teams the muscle to maintain them. That is responsible leadership."

From orange overalls on the construction site, to the cab of a truck, to handing over keys to law enforcement — this is leadership that touches the work.

The 22-wheeler will haul material. The tractors will clear and maintain. The 3 new Isuzu bakkies will get by-law and security teams into communities faster.

It is delivery you can see. Equipment you can touch. A Mayor you can walk with.

The road ahead is being built. The tools are now in hand. The work does not stop there. Polokwane is moving.
