Fetakgomo Tubatse Municipality's Executive Mayor Eddie Maila has been officially named in the ANC's Limpopo Provincial Top Five slate as Provincial Treasurer, a move that cements his reputation as one of the most effective and trusted leaders in the province.
Various regions confirmed the full slate: Dr Phophi Ramathuba as Chairperson, John Mpe as Deputy Chairperson, Vhamusanda Reuben Madadzhe as Secretary, Pule Shayi as Deputy Secretary, and Eddie Maila as Treasurer.
This announcement was met with jubilation in Sekhukhune, where Maila's own region and the ANC Youth League publicly endorsed him, hailing his grassroots campaigning and his ability to deliver results for ordinary people. The endorsement from his home base was a powerful show of unity, with community members and volunteers praising his hands-on approach and his track record of winning every by-election in the region.
The by-election victories that propelled Maila into the spotlight were no small feat. As the ANC's Regional Election Head, he masterminded a series of decisive wins. In August 2025, Maila's door-to-door campaign in Ward 34, Fetakgomo Tubatse, delivered a crucial victory for the ANC, cementing the party's foothold in the heart of the municipality.
In September 2025, the ANC secured a commanding win in Ward 09, Ephraim Mogale Local Municipality, with Maleswene Collins Nkwane elected as the new ward councillor, thanks to Maila's relentless engagement and strategic mobilisation. November 2025 saw a landslide in Ward 37, Fetakgomo Tubatse, where the ANC captured 71% of the vote, electing Ngake Zacharia Motubatse as councillor. Maila also led the party to a significant victory in Ward 30, Roossenekal, Sekhukhune, further expanding the ANC's reach in the district.
These wins were part of a clean sweep of all by-elections in Sekhukhune in 2025, a feat highlighted by the headline "ANC SEKHUKHUNE REGION ON FIRE: WINS ALL BY-ELECTIONS WITH OVERWHELMING MAJORITY". Maila's role as Regional Election Head was pivotal in coordinating the campaign across multiple wards, ensuring a unified message and a consistent presence on the ground.
Maila's leadership is not just about numbers; it is about tangible improvements in people's lives. In July 2025, he launched the construction of a 6 km access road in Ga-Mokgotho village, Ward 16, promising better connectivity, reduced travel time, and new economic opportunities for local residents.
His administration has also secured three consecutive years of unqualified audit opinions for Fetakgomo Tubatse, a 100% spend of conditional grants, and a clean track record on municipal finances, reinforcing his image as a prudent and transparent steward of public resources. Maila's administration has championed renewable energy, with mining companies in his municipality pioneering solar projects that will benefit hundreds of households.
Academically, Maila holds a Bachelor of Public Administration (Honours) from MANCOSA, a Project Management certificate from Stellenbosch, and qualifications in Municipal Finance from Wits and Local Economic Development from the University of Johannesburg, giving him the technical expertise to manage the province's finances.
The ANC Youth League in Limpopo has publicly endorsed the unity slate, including Maila as Treasurer, signaling broad support across party structures [5]. His rise is seen as a reward for his grassroots campaigning, his ability to deliver clean audits, and his commitment to improving the lives of ordinary people in Sekhukhune.
As Provincial Treasurer, Maila is expected to bring the same rigor and results-driven approach to managing the ANC's finances in Limpopo, ensuring that resources are used effectively to drive development and service delivery across the province. His leadership is already being felt, with expectations that he will prioritize infrastructure, clean governance, and economic empowerment for all Limpopo residents.
Looking ahead, Maila's new role will see him at the heart of the ANC's provincial strategy, working closely with Chairperson Dr Phophi Ramathuba and the rest of the Top Five to steer Limpopo through the challenges of service delivery, economic growth, and political renewal.
The March 2026 Provincial Conference will be a key moment, as the new leadership team sets out its vision for the future. For the people of Fetakgomo Tubatse and Sekhukhune, Maila's ascent is a source of pride and hope, a sign that their voices are being heard at the highest levels of the party.
