ANC Waterberg Region Throws Weight Behind Dr. Phophi Ramathuba for Provincial Chairperson Role

The ANC Waterberg Region has confirmed its support for Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba as the preferred candidate for ANC Provincial Chairperson. The region's endorsement was made during its 10th Regional Conference, where delegates unanimously backed Ramathuba's bid for the top spot.

ANC Waterberg Region Chairperson Jack Maeko confidently expressed the region's support for Ramathuba, citing her leadership qualities and experience as Premier. Maeko drew parallels with previous ANC Provincial Chairpersons who also served as Premiers, such as Sello Moloto, Cassel Mathale, and Stan Mathabatha.

However, Maeko did not hold back in criticizing Mathabatha's recent decision to step aside as ANC Provincial Chairperson. Maeko accused Mathabatha of double standards, saying that he should have refrained from criticizing the ANC's organizational principles after deciding to step down. "He joined the ANC voluntarily, therefore he must leave voluntarily and peacefully, not criticize the ANC following his decision," Maeko said.

Maeko's criticism of Mathabatha comes on the back of the ANC Youth League's own scathing assessment of the former Provincial Chairperson. The youth league had lambasted Mathabatha over his alleged involvement in various scandals, including the VBS scandal and the "tin houses" saga. The youth league's criticism had painted a picture of a leader out of touch with the ANC's values and principles.

The ANC Waterberg Region's criticism of Mathabatha is a call for accountability and transparency in the party's leadership. Maeko's comments suggest that the region is determined to uphold the ANC's values and principles, and that leaders will be held to account for their actions.

The ANC Waterberg Region also elected new officials to lead the region. The top five officials include:

- Regional Chairperson: Moloko Jack Maeko

- Deputy Chairperson: Thulani Ngoako Taueatsoala

- Regional Secretary: Rufus Mahoro

- Deputy Regional Secretary: Andries Lekalakala

- Treasurer: Elsie Ndhlovu

The newly-elected officials are expected to lead the region with dedication and commitment to the ANC's principles and values.
