ANCYL kills social ills through soccer tournament

The ANC Youth League in Ward 23, Sefako Makgatho, has successfully organized a soccer tournament that aimed to eliminate social ills affecting young people in the area. Led by Branch Secretary Paseka Maleka, the league brought together talented young soccer players from the area to compete in a fun-filled tournament that promoted healthy lifestyles and provided an alternative to the challenges faced by many young people.

The tournament, which was held at Seleteng ground at Ga-Mphahlele, attracted scouts from top PSL clubs, providing a platform for young players to showcase their skills and potentially secure a spot in the professional leagues. With a whopping prize of R15,000 up for grabs, the winners took home R10,000 and a soccer kit, while the runner-up received R5,000 and a kit.

According to Maleka, the initiative is part of the league's efforts to support young people in rural areas who often lack access to resources and opportunities. "This tournament is not about politics, but about assisting our youth who have no support," Maleka said. "We want to keep our youth busy and engaged in positive activities that promote their well-being and development."

The tournament was made possible through donations from community members and other Samaritans, demonstrating the power of community-driven initiatives. The ANC Youth League Peter Mokaba Region Secretary Percy Nchabeleng and Deputy Chairperson Itireleng Rachuene also lent their support to the tournament, highlighting the league's commitment to empowering young people.

As the tournament came to a close, the winners were celebrated for their skills and teamwork. More importantly, the initiative has shown that with the right support and opportunities, young people can be empowered to make positive choices and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
