Bafana Bafana aims for Caf third place spot

The South African national football team, Bafana Bafana, aims for third place after a disappointing loss against their Nigerian counterparts. They were defeated 4-2 on penalties after the match ended in a 1-1 draw after extra time. This outcome has left football enthusiasts and supporters disheartened, as the Nigerian team emerged victorious in the semi-finals on Wednesday, the 7th. However, Bafana Bafana can take solace in the fact that they have earned R47 million ($2.5 million) in prize money after reaching the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 24 years.

Bafana Bafana will now compete in the third and fourth place playoff match against DR Congo at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Saturday evening. This match will determine which nation finishes third in this year's edition of the tournament.

Despite falling short at the semi-final hurdle, Hugo Broos expressed his pride in his players' performance. "I am very proud of the players and the way we have performed. I know that everyone now recognizes South Africa as a formidable team, and that is the most important thing," he said.
