Man of the match performance by Bafana Bafana Captain Ronwen Williams who saved four penalties to ensure that South Africa reaches the semi-finals spot without trepidation became the highest order of the day.
Percy Tau was heavily criticised by fans following his poor performance against Cape Verde in the quarterfinals of the African Cup of Nations on Saturday evening.
Bafana coach Hugo Broos has been urged by local fans on various social networks to eject Tau from his first eleven because he has lost his mojo as a footballer.
Tebogo Mokwena and Mothobi Mvala both converted their penalties to make sure that Williams heroic efforts don’t go to waste as South Africa wallop Cape Verde 2-1 to book a semi-final place for the first time since 2000 as they keep their hopes of emulating class of 1996 which was coached by the late Clive Barker. Zakhele Lepasa ballooned his penalty kick while Aubrey Modiba’s poor penalty kick was saved by Cape Verde goalkeeper.
Williams, who won man of the match, said he dedicated his award to the entire Bafana Bafana players as well as the coaches and all staff members. “I’m over the moon, ecstatic …I don’t have words. I’m so proud of the boys. You know we deserve it, just to keep going, keep on fighting. To our staff they played a part. It was my time to show up for the hard work they have done. This is not mine but for the collective. Technical team and the players. This man of the match award is for them. We soldiered on as a team and during this journey. I will accept this on each and every Bafana Bafana player,” Captain Williams.
