The once-strong alliance between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk has imploded, with both parties trading barbs and insults in a public feud.

The rift between the two emerged after Musk's scathing criticism of Trump's tax and spending megabill, which Musk called a "disgusting abomination".

The feud escalated when Trump threatened to eliminate government subsidies and contracts for Musk's businesses, citing Musk's opposition to the megabill's rollback of electric-vehicle tax credits. Musk fired back, accusing Trump of being "ungrateful" and claiming that he wouldn't be in the Oval Office without his support. Musk also floated the idea of starting a third political party and agreed with a tweet suggesting Trump should be impeached.

In a stunning revelation, Musk accused Trump of being implicated in the Jeffrey Epstein files, claiming that's why they haven't been made public. "Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!" Musk tweeted.

The feud had a significant impact on Tesla's stock, which plummeted 14% on Thursday, losing about $152.4 billion in market value. This marked the stock's biggest one-day slide on record.

The Trump-Musk relationship, once considered one of the most consequential in modern American politics, appears to be beyond repair. Trump's comments about Musk's "Trump derangement syndrome" and Musk's accusations of Trump's ingratitude have created a deep rift between the two. As the feud continues to escalate, it's unclear what the future holds for their relationship.
