Patriotic Alliance president Gayton McKenzie has confirmed the suspension of the party's deputy president, Kenny Kunene, from his role as Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee for Transport, as well as party political activities. The suspension comes amid an investigation into Kunene's presence at the home of a suspect in the DJ Sumbody murder case during a police raid on Monday.

The suspect, Katiso "TK" Molefe, is accused of being the mastermind behind the 2022 murder of DJ Sumbody. Kunene has denied knowing Molefe, claiming he was at the property to facilitate an exclusive interview with one of his journalists. However, the police's swift action and the circumstances surrounding Kunene's presence at the property have raised questions about Kunene's involvement.

The suspension is a significant development in the ongoing investigation, and it remains to be seen how Kunene will respond to the allegations. The Patriotic Alliance has assured that the party will cooperate fully with the investigation, and McKenzie's decision to suspend Kunene demonstrates the party's commitment to upholding the rule of law.

The suspension has also sparked a reaction from the Democratic Alliance, with Johannesburg caucus leader Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku calling for Kunene's immediate resignation. Kayser-Echeozonjoku accused the Patriotic Alliance of being a "selfish, underworld organisation that associates with crime and corruption."

As the investigation unfolds, the public will be watching closely to see how the Patriotic Alliance and Kunene respond to the allegations. The party's reputation is under scrutiny, and McKenzie's decision to suspend Kunene will be seen as a test of the party's commitment to transparency and accountability.
