Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US-Israel military operation on Saturday, with reports indicating about 40 Iranian officials were also killed.
The strikes targeted Khamenei's office in Tehran, and Iranian state media confirmed his death, declaring 40 days of mourning and a seven-day national holiday.
US President Donald Trump announced Khamenei's death, calling him "one of the most evil people in history" and urging Iranians to "take back their country". Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the operation aimed to end the threat from the Ayatollah regime.
The attack has sparked mixed reactions in Iran, with celebrations in cities like Isfahan and Shiraz, while others mourn in Tehran and Mashhad. Iran has vowed retaliation, promising "the most devastating offensive operation" against US bases and Israel, prompting Trump to warn of "force never seen before" in response.
