Legendary Jamie Foxx won the Ultimate Icon 2025 BET Awards

Jamie Foxx, born Eric Marlon Bishop on December 13, 1967, is a multifaceted talent - an American actor, comedian, and singer. With a career spanning over three decades, Foxx has garnered numerous accolades, including an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, a British Academy Film Award, and a Golden Globe Award.

Foxx's breakthrough came in the early 1990s as a featured player in the sketch comedy show "In Living Color" (1991-1994). He later co-created, produced, and starred in his own sitcom, "The Jamie Foxx Show" (1996-2001). His film career took off with roles in "Any Given Sunday" (1999) and "Ali" (2001).

In 2004, Foxx received dual Academy Award nominations for his performances in "Ray" and "Collateral." He won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Ray Charles in "Ray," becoming the second Black actor to win in this category after Sidney Poitier.

Foxx's performance was widely praised, and he went on to star in films like "Jarhead" (2005), "Dreamgirls" (2006), and "Django Unchained" (2012).

Foxx's music career also flourished, with hits like "Slow Jamz" and "Blame It." He won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for "Blame It."

Now, Foxx has been given a second chance at life after suffering a stroke in 2023. Despite the challenges, he made a remarkable recovery and returned to the spotlight, accepting the Ultimate Icon honor at the 2025 BET Awards.

As Foxx stepped onto the stage, his eyes welled up with tears as he accepted the award. "When I saw the memoriam, I was like, 'Man, that could’ve been me,'" Foxx said, recalling the moment he realized how close he had come to losing his life. Foxx's speech was a heartfelt tribute to his family, particularly his daughters, Corinne and Anelise Estelle Foxx, who played a crucial role in his recovery.

Corinne, who had always been a source of strength for Foxx, took on a more active role in his care during his recovery. She would often accompany him to doctor's appointments and therapy sessions, providing emotional support and helping him stay focused on his rehabilitation.

Anelise, on the other hand, used her creativity to help her father heal. She would play her guitar and sing to him, bringing a sense of calm and comfort to his hospital room. Foxx has said that Anelise's music was instrumental in his recovery, and he will always be grateful for the special bond they share.

The audience was visibly moved by Foxx's speech, with many wiping away tears. Stevie Wonder, who presented Foxx with the award, looked on with a warm smile. Foxx's family members, including his daughters and sister, were also in attendance, and they were clearly proud of the man who had overcome so much.

As Foxx concluded his speech, the audience erupted in applause once again, showing their appreciation for his inspiring words and his resilience in the face of adversity. Foxx's BET Award win was more than just a recognition of his talent; it was a celebration of his second chance at life.

Foxx's journey to the BET Awards stage was not an easy one. After suffering a medical complication that led to a stroke, Foxx was hospitalized for weeks. The road to recovery was long and challenging, but Foxx was determined to overcome the odds.

With the support of his loved ones, Foxx slowly began to regain his strength and mobility. His daughters, Corinne and Anelise, were by his side every step of the way, providing him with the love and encouragement he needed to keep going.

Foxx's recovery was not without its challenges, but with the support of his family and his own determination, he was able to overcome the odds and return to his normal life. He has spoken publicly about the experience, saying that it taught him the importance of gratitude and appreciation for every moment he has.

The BET Awards ceremony was a testament to Foxx's resilience and determination. As he accepted the Ultimate Icon award, he was surrounded by friends, family, and colleagues who had supported him throughout his career and during his recovery.

Stevie Wonder, who presented Foxx with the award, praised him for his contributions to music and entertainment. "Jamie Foxx is a true icon," Wonder said. "He has inspired generations of artists and fans with his talent, creativity, and passion."

At the 77th Academy Awards in 2005, Charlize Theron presented Jamie Foxx with the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Ray Charles in the movie "Ray". The event took place on February 27, 2005. Foxx's win marked a significant moment in his career.
