The wife of abducted South African activist Mandla Mandela, Nosekeni Rabia Mandela, has expressed overwhelming relief and gratitude after confirmation that her husband and fellow South Africans will be released from detention in Israel.
The group was detained after participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, an initiative aimed at delivering aid to Gaza.
"I'm grateful beyond words for the relentless dedication of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) legal team, Adalah, the local GSF support crew, and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco)," she said. "Their tireless efforts secured the release of the South African delegation."
The South African government confirmed the news, with Dirco spokesperson Chrispin Phiri saying, "We have received confirmation that the individuals in question are scheduled to be released from detention and will be repatriated, departing via Jordan tomorrow morning."
Mandla Mandela's wife couldn't contain her joy, saying, "Hearing that my husband is finally coming home fills my heart with pure joy, tears of relief, love, and gratitude. I can't wait to hold you again, my love; see you soon."
The South African government has reiterated its commitment to the safety and well-being of its nationals abroad, with Dirco minister Ronald Lamola extending gratitude to all involved in securing the release.
