Pretoria — Deputy President Paul Mashatile has stepped in with a firm, presidential response to the recent killings of women in and around Kempton Park, vowing that the full might of the state will be brought to bear on those responsible.

Writing in his capacity as Chairperson of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster Cabinet Committee, Mashatile issued a strong and unequivocal condemnation of the horrific crimes that have shocked Gauteng and the nation.

The Deputy President joined President Cyril Ramaphosa in extending deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the women who lost their lives, while sending a clear message of solidarity to the women and residents of Kempton Park and surrounding areas.

Mashatile did not mince his words on law enforcement, ordering action:

"I would like to urge our law enforcement agencies to continue to work with other relevant stakeholders and communities to ensure that those responsible for these crimes are brought to book and that women and children feel safe in their communities."

In a powerful call to men across the country, the Deputy President placed the fight against gender-based violence squarely on the shoulders of society, stating:

"Gender-based violence (GBV) has no place in our communities, and all men should be in the forefront condemning such violence and protecting women."

The intervention comes as the country grapples with another wave of GBV, with Mashatile positioning the JCPS Cluster — the nerve centre of South Africa's security apparatus — as the driving force to restore safety and justice.

His message has been welcomed as a decisive, compassionate and hands-on display of leadership at a time when communities in the East Rand are demanding answers and protection.
