During his State of the Local Municipality Address (SOLMA), held on Thursday at the Motodi Sports Complex, Mayor Cllr Eddie Maila delivered a powerful message of hope and transformation, unveiling a R1.3 billion budget aimed at enhancing people's lives and accelerating service delivery in Fetakgomo Tubatse communities.
This bold budget is set to inspire positive change and improve the overall quality of life for residents. The budget is a testament to the municipality's commitment to improving the lives of its residents and providing them with essential services.
The municipality's leadership has demonstrated mindful leadership, prioritizing the needs of the community and allocating resources accordingly. The budget reflects the municipality's commitment to transparency and accountability, with a focus on improving the lives of residents.
One of the key focus areas of the municipality is the construction of roads, which is essential for improving access and mobility. The municipality has allocated a significant amount of its budget towards the construction of roads in rural areas, which will enhance economic activities and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
As Mayor Cllr Maila noted, "The vision towards building a city cannot be realised without access and mobility, and therefore the road infrastructure amongst others is key towards the attainment of our vision."
The municipality plans to construct several roads, including the Shushumela internal roads, Ga-Mokgotho access road, and Mashifane Park roads. These roads will not only improve access but also stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities. The municipality has already introduced contractors for some of these projects, and work is expected to commence soon.

The municipality will also be investing in electrification projects, aimed at addressing the huge backlog in terms of electrification. The municipality will be electrifying households and providing electricity to new developments, which will improve the lives of residents and stimulate economic growth.
Mayor Cllr Maila emphasized, "The Municipality is also constrained by lack of capacity on the national grid and that is hampering the energisation of many households." The municipality plans to electrify several areas, including Mountain Square, Strykraal, and Ga Mongatane.
These projects will not only provide electricity to residents but also stimulate economic growth and create job opportunities. The municipality is working closely with Eskom to ensure that the electrification projects are completed successfully.

The municipality will also be prioritizing waste management, and has acquired new fleet for waste management, which will assist in extending the services to other areas. This will not only improve the environment but also enhance the health and well-being of residents.
As Mayor Cllr Mail stated, "Over 50 areas have been provided with skip bins for waste disposal, and we urge our communities to utilise the skip bins to dispose waste." The municipality has also introduced a program to promote waste reduction and recycling. This program aims to educate residents on the importance of waste reduction and recycling, and to promote sustainable waste management practices.
The budget also includes allocation for social programs, including the provision of school uniforms and shoes to learners from poor backgrounds. The municipality has initiated a program to donate uniforms to learners who are unable to attend school due to lack of uniforms. Mayor Cllr Maila appealed, "I would like to challenge entrepreneurs in attendance here today, to donate 10 pairs of school shoes towards this worthy cause."
The municipality has already donated over 300 pairs of school shoes to various primary schools in the area. This program has made a significant impact on the lives of learners, and has helped to improve their attendance and performance at school.
The Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality's R1.3 billion budget is a testament to its commitment to improving the lives of its residents. With a focus on service delivery, economic growth, and social development, the municipality is poised to make a positive impact on the community. As Mayor Cllr Maila EE concluded, "We are building a City and with the right attitude and mindset, we can reach there."
The municipality's leadership is committed to ensuring that the budget is implemented effectively, and that the community benefits from the various projects and programs. With the right attitude and mindset, the municipality is confident that it can achieve its vision of building a city that is prosperous, equitable, and sustainable.
