ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula has heaped praise on John Mpe's Peter Mokaba Region, acknowledging their stellar tribute to the late ANCYL leader Peter Mokaba.


Addressing the Peter Mokaba Memorial Lecture, Mbalula lauded the region's intensive event, saying "the real struggle is about remembering against forgetting".


Mbalula asked attendees to give Mpe and the region a round of applause, acknowledging their efforts in keeping Mokaba's legacy alive. "I give Mpe my political leadership flowers for organizing this event," he said, highlighting the importance of commemorating revolutionary heroes.


In a powerful address, Mpe echoed similar sentiments, saying: "It is better to die for the idea that will live than to live for the idea that will die. Unity is potent and imperative. We must remain humble and continue to honour our society through humility and respect." His words resonated with the audience, underscoring the importance of unity and humility in the struggle.


ANCYL Secretary-General Tsakani Tshivhiti also weighed in, emphasizing the importance of youth leadership in advancing the ANC's agenda. "The youth are not just the future, they are the present," she said, highlighting the crucial role young leaders play in shaping the party's direction.


The event, held at JM Ntsime Hall in Mogwase, North West, drew top ANC brass, including Mbalula, 2nd Deputy SG Maropene Ramokgopa, and Provincial Secretary Vhamusanda Reuben Madadzhe. ANC Women's League president Sisi Tolashe and ANCYL leaders also attended, underscoring the significance of Mokaba's legacy.


Mbalula's keynote address reflected on Mokaba's life, legacy, and contributions to the struggle. "Peter Mokaba was a fighter, a revolutionary who dedicated his life to freedom," Mbalula said, emphasizing the ANC's commitment to Mokaba's ideals.


The memorial lecture is part of the ANC's January 8 celebrations, marking the party's 114th anniversary. Mbalula reaffirmed the ANC's focus on renewal and youth empowerment, saying "youth are central to advancing the struggle" .
