Former ANC President Thabo Mbeki has thrown his weight behind KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, praising him for exposing links between crime and the justice system.

Speaking at a political school in Durban, Mbeki said Mkhwanazi’s revelations have opened the door for real answers through the Madlanga Commission.

Mbeki emphasized the need for honest discussions within the ANC to address the party’s decline and restore its moral authority.

He noted that the party’s shift from a liberation movement to a governing party has attracted individuals seeking personal gain rather than pursuing the movement’s objectives.

Mbeki highlighted the importance of a national dialogue to address South Africa’s pressing issues, including poverty, unemployment, and crime. The dialogue, organized by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, aims to bring all South Africans together to find solutions and exercise their right to self-determination.

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal is working to rebuild after electoral losses, with Mbeki’s input seen as a boost. The party aims to regain its stronghold status through honest self-reflection and people-focused solutions. Mbeki stressed the need for strong, ethical leaders and grassroots action to drive nation-building and ensure true inclusion.

As the ANC navigates these challenges, Mbeki’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of integrity and accountability in leadership. The road ahead will require dedication, transparency, and a commitment to putting the people first.
