Limpopo's Health MEC, Dieketseng Mashego, has hit the ground running, emphasizing the crucial role of hospital boards in driving quality healthcare across the province.
Addressing newly appointed Hospital Board Members at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane, Mashego stressed that boards are "custodians of accountability and transparency" in the healthcare system.
With a focus on ethical leadership and community-centred governance, Mashego reminded members that their role is pivotal in ensuring facilities deliver quality, dignified, and accessible healthcare services. "Strong governance structures are the backbone of a responsive and people-centred health system," she said.
The induction workshop, attended by District Executive Managers, Senior Clinical Managers, and other stakeholders, aims to empower boards with knowledge and clarity on their oversight role. The programme features four commissions focusing on critical thematic areas, including Roles and Responsibilities of Hospital Boards and Health Governance Paradigms.
Mashego's commitment to improving healthcare in Limpopo is evident in her efforts to address staff shortages, infrastructure challenges, and medication supply interruptions. Her leadership is seen as a positive step towards transforming the province's healthcare system.
