Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC Tonny Rachoene has heeded to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call to curb accidents in the country.

He hosted Transport Minister Mme Barbara Creecy and Mpumalanga MEC for Public Works Thulasizwe Thomo, as well as Mayors from Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga, in conducting site inspection and also checking the progress that is being made in the rehabilitation and expansion of the busy R573 Moloto Road Corridor.

“We have received a full brief on the progress that is being made in the actual construction of some portions of the Moloto Road, which stretches for about 150 kilometres from Marblehall in Sekhukhune to Pretoria in Gauteng. We stopped at the recently completed roundabout and several other construction sites on the stretch of the road which is being done in phases. The 7th administration as led by President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa is hard at work servicing our communities. This will subsequently create a safer environment for motorists travelling on the busy road," said MEC Rachoene.

Rachoene told The Azanian that the fatal accidents that are experienced on the road will soon be a thing of the past.

“We also welcome an announcement by the Minister that SANRAL will assist Limpopo Province in upgrading 700 kilometres of gravel roads, following yesterday’s meeting between the President and Limpopo EXCO as led by Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba,” he concluded.
