JOHANNESBURG / POLOKWANE— Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Cllr Makoro John Mpe, has once again demonstrated why he is regarded as a statesman who deeply respects tradition, royalty and the enduring legacy of leadership.
On Sunday, 16 August 2026, at the elegant Shepstone Gardens in Johannesburg, Mayor Mpe stood before royalty and dignitaries to deliver a heartfelt and powerful accolade to Her Majesty Queen Manyaku Thulare on the occasion of her birthday celebration.
It was a moment steeped in dignity, tradition and deep admiration. The Mayor of the Capital City did not just deliver a speech — he delivered honour.
In his tribute, Cllr Mpe celebrated Her Majesty’s remarkable stature, her steadfast leadership and her enduring contribution to the nation, noting that the celebration was not merely of a birthday, but of a life that continues to inspire generations and leave an indelible mark far beyond the throne.
This is the hallmark of Mayor Mpe’s leadership. He is a Mayor who governs with service delivery in the streets of Polokwane, but also leads with cultural wisdom and respect for the institution of traditional leadership. While others forget where we come from, Mayor Mpe anchors the City of Polokwane in its roots.
As the Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the ANC in Limpopo and the Executive Mayor of the province’s economic capital, Cllr Mpe continues to show maturity, diplomacy and reverence — qualities that define a true leader.
His tribute to Queen Manyaku Thulare resonates as a reminder that progress and tradition must walk hand in hand. Polokwane is indeed blessed to have a Mayor who is Naturally Progressive, yet deeply rooted in respect.
The City salutes Her Majesty Queen Manyaku Thulare, and applauds Executive Mayor John Mpe for representing Polokwane with such grace and honour on a royal stage.
