Polokwane - In a heartwarming ceremony, Executive Mayor Cllr Makoro John Mpe bid farewell to top matriculant Paballo Makokga, gifting her a comprehensive bursary and lavish support package to kickstart her university journey at the University of Cape Town (UCT).


The Mayor's Excellence Awards recognized Paballo's outstanding achievement, providing her with a treasure trove of essentials, including a Haval vehicle escort to the airport, flight tickets, and top-notch learning tools like an HP laptop and Lenovo tablets.


Paballo, from Hoërskool Noordeland, Capricorn South District, has been celebrated by Polokwane Municipality for her academic brilliance. The city's support package ensured she departs for UCT in style, accompanied by her proud parents and a municipal delegation.


"Polokwane celebrates you, Paballo Makokga. May your journey at UCT be as remarkable as your achievements and may you inspire many young people to dream boldly and work diligently," Mayor Mpe said, emphasizing the city's commitment to nurturing talent.


The support package was a testament to Polokwane's investment in its youth. Alongside the bursary, Paballo received a Vodacom gift box, Coca-Cola lunch bag, umbrella, water bottle, two caps, and a R4 000 Makro voucher. A weekend getaway to Euphoria Golf Estate capped off the celebrations, recognizing her hard work and excellence.


As Paballo touched down in Cape Town, the city tweeted: "BOARDING PASS TO GREATNESS. Cape Town, please prepare yourselves — Polokwane has released one of its finest." The municipality's social media was abuzz with pride, showcasing Paballo's journey from Noordeland to UCT, inspiring young Polokwane residents to aim high.


Mayor Mpe's initiative to recognize academic excellence has once again put Polokwane in the spotlight, showcasing the city's dedication to empowering its youth. "This is what happens when a community comes together to celebrate merit," Mpe's office stated.
