Seasoned veteran politician Naledi Pandor
Veteran ANC leader and former Minister Naledi Pandor has delivered a withering critique of President Cyril Ramaphosa's leadership and the ANC under his administration, lambasting them for failing to offer solutions to the nation's problems.
Speaking at the centenary celebration of former ANC Women's League president Gertrude Shope, Pandor urged the party to return to its founding values and commit to practical renewal.
"We have lost our glory," Pandor declared, emphasizing that the ANC has strayed from its original mission to serve the people. "We exist for the people, but we have forgotten that. Let's not pretend about it, we have lost it." Pandor's words are a stark reminder of the party's decline under Ramaphosa's leadership.
Pandor's criticism was aimed squarely at Ramaphosa's administration, which she said has failed to provide solutions to the nation's problems. "There is nothing worse in an organisation or in a country than a leader who has no solution," she said. "We can't be asking someone else 'how do we solve this?' The people are looking to us to resolve it."
The veteran politician called on local ANC branches to take responsibility and be agents of change within their communities. "There should not be a non-functioning clinic if there's an ANC branch," she said, highlighting the party's failure to deliver basic services under Ramaphosa's watch.
Pandor's speech also emphasized the importance of intergenerational cooperation and unity within the party. "Older women have a great deal to offer, young women have a great deal to offer, and working together would be a strong force," she said.
As the ANC grapples with declining public trust, Pandor's words serve as a wake-up call for the party to rediscover its purpose and deliver meaningful change to the people. Will Ramaphosa's administration heed her warning, or will it continue down a path of decline? The future of the ANC hangs in the balance.
