National Coloured Congress leader and Member of Parliament Fadiel Adams was arrested on Tuesday in connection with alleged fraud and interference in the murder investigation of former ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed Adams was taken into custody after police issued a J50 warrant of arrest. She said the arrest followed “extensive efforts to locate Mr Adams, including visiting multiple addresses associated with him.”
Mathe said Adams faces charges of fraud as well as defeating and obstructing the course of justice.
“Through investigations, the task team discovered that Mr Adams interfered with the now convicted and sentenced hitman at a very sensitive and advanced stage of the police’s investigation,” Mathe said.
Sindiso Magaqa was shot and killed in his hometown of Umzimkhulu in July 2017.
In June 2025, Sibusiso Ncengwa, 37, was sentenced to an effective 25 years’ imprisonment by the Pietermaritzburg High Court after being convicted of Magaqa’s murder and related offences.
Ncengwa made Section 220 admissions, confirming he shot Magaqa on July 13, 2017. According to the National Prosecuting Authority, he also admitted to the attempted murders of Jabulile Msiya, Nonsikelelo Mafa and Nceba Mazongolo, as well as malicious damage to property involving vehicles belonging to Magaqa and others.
He further admitted to firearm-related offences and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
Ncengwa detailed the events leading up to Magaqa’s death and his interactions with co-accused Sbonelo Myeza, Mlungisi Ncalane and Mbulelo Mpofana, and disclosed the names of alleged masterminds behind the killing.
Police released a media statement on Tuesday confirming the warrant of arrest for Adams. He presented himself to authorities and was taken into custody the same day.
The arrest of Adams is the latest development in the ongoing investigation into Magaqa’s murder.
