President Ramaphosa congratulates St Engenas ZCC for its 100 years existence during his Moria visit

President Cyril Ramaphosa graced St Engenas Zion Christian Church with his presence in Limpopo during its annual Easter conference on Sunday afternoon.

Ramaphosa told church members his visit is personal, not political, congratulating St Engenas Zion Christian Church following 100 years of existence.   “I greet you all Zionists, I came here in my personal capacity and not for politics. Bishop, I want to congratulate the church for turning 100 years old. Today I am starting to see so many people. I also want to thank you for the lovely church regalia that you have donned,” said Ramaphosa who received loud cheers from the church members.

Ramaphosa also said he acknowledged Bishop Lekganyane words of wisdom during his sermon that South Africa had vast natural resources and minerals which should be used to lift its people out of poverty. He promised that he would take Bispho Lekganyane’s advice and ensure that happens.

Speaking to the media, President Ramaphosa said: “For me it's a humbling moment, a moment of great reflection particularly when you hear a sermon that was delivered by the bishop. The bishop delivered a very incredible sermon about particular things about how to take the country forward, how to make sure that our country can move ahead. So I leave here uplifted, my spirits are high and to join hundreds of worshippers here is something that is always wonderful so I'm glad to have been here.”

The gathering happened barely three days after 45 people who were travelling from Botswana were killed when their bus veered off a bridge which an 8-year-old survived while travelling with her grandmother.

Pilgrims countrywide and beyond gathered at the denomination’s headquarters in Moria near Polokwane attended Easter pilgrimage.

Ramaphosa was accompanied by Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi , Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopha, Polokwane Executive Mayor and Peter Mokaba Region Chairperson John Makoro Mpe and ANC provincial secretary Reuben Madadzhe  to get blessings ahead of the much-anticipated general elections this year.  EFF leader Julius Malema reportedly visited the church.

Meanwhile, ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula  also spent his time at Covenant Fellowship Church International in Esikhawini in KwaZulu Natal.
