The City of Tshwane has given embattled Chief Financial Officer Gareth Mnisi an additional seven days to make written submissions on why he shouldn't be suspended from his job.

Mnisi, implicated in the Madlanga Commission for tender rigging, was initially given seven days to respond but his lawyers raised procedural issues, prompting the extension.

Mnisi's lawyers argued the notice served to him lacked details on the allegations, making it difficult for him to respond. However, the City Manager, Johan Mettler, disagreed, citing a legal opinion that the notice was compliant with labour practices.

The allegations against Mnisi include tender rigging of a security contract, with evidence of communication between external parties and city officials. Mettler says Mnisi's presence at work could jeopardise the investigation and damage the city's reputation.

Mnisi is set to testify at the Madlanga Commission on April 17, 2026.
