A Leader's Commitment: MEC Rachoene Celebrates Mandela Day with Community Service

The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Tonny Rachoene, recently celebrated Mandela Day by leading a team of Dikgerekgere maintenance workers and Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) beneficiaries to Maokeng Primary School in Modimolle, Waterberg District. This initiative is a testament to Rachoene's commitment to community service and his dedication to making a positive impact in the lives of Limpopians.


Before heading to Modimolle to participate in the Mandela Day activities, Rachoene stopped by the Mokopane Cost Centre to lead #OperationTsogaMoshomi. This operation is part of the department's efforts to closely monitor its 36 cost centers, which are directly linked to communities in the province. By doing so, Rachoene emphasized the importance of effective management and oversight of these centers, which play a critical role in delivering essential services to the people of Limpopo.


At Maokeng Primary School, the team worked together to clean the school yard, fix broken windows, perform plumbing works, and paint faded rails. The event was attended by local leaders, including Acting Executive Mayor Cllr Jeremiah Ngobeni and Modimolle local municipality mayor Cllr Aaron Sebolai. Rachoene's commitment to community service is evident in his actions, and his presence at the school was a testament to his dedication to making a difference.

The Dikgerekgere program, for example, aims to rehabilitate gravel roads, creating over 300 jobs for young people and improving transportation.
