Limpopo Premier Dr. Phophi Ramathuba and MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Tonny Rachoene recently visited the Greater Letaba Municipality to address pressing road infrastructure challenges. The visit aimed to identify and address issues obstructing the completion of vital infrastructure projects, particularly Roads D15, D3150, and D3232, also known as Morbeng Roads.
The roads in question have been plagued by controversy since construction began in 2017, with completion initially projected for August 2022. However, the project has faced numerous challenges, including bridge construction and a final stretch of approximately 3.2 kilometers that remains undone. The poor state of road infrastructure in the area has had a significant impact on the local community, making it difficult for residents to access essential services and for businesses to transport goods.
Upon arrival, Premier Ramathuba and MEC Rachoene were warmly welcomed by Mayor Dagma Mamayoha, who expressed gratitude for the government's commitment to addressing the municipality's infrastructure challenges. The mayor's welcome underscored the importance of collaboration between government officials and local leaders in driving development initiatives.
"We are today being led by our Honourable Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba to the Greater Letaba Municipality, to address challenges of service delivery on roads infrastructure. The leadership is receiving a brief on the status report of roads D15, D3150 and D3232, otherwise known as Morbeng Roads. The briefing session will be followed by a visit to the stalled projects," said MEC Rachoene.
Premier Ramathuba emphasized the urgency of completing the road, stating she won't be able to face the President without progress on this project. The government is committed to accelerating service delivery and ensuring infrastructure development aligns with community needs. The visit demonstrates the government's focus on addressing the needs of local communities and its determination to deliver better services.
During the visit, the team engaged with traditional leaders and stakeholders to identify and address issues hindering the project's completion. This collaborative approach demonstrates the government's focus on community-centric development. The government recognizes the importance of involving local communities in the decision-making process and ensuring that infrastructure development aligns with their needs.

The Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure has launched the Dikgerekgere program, which focuses on grading, regravelling, and clearing roads across the province. This initiative has created over 300 jobs for young people and improved road infrastructure in rural areas. The program is a key component of the government's efforts to address road infrastructure challenges and promote economic growth.
Road infrastructure plays a critical role in the economic development of any region. Good roads facilitate the transportation of goods and services, create jobs, and improve access to markets. In Limpopo, the government's focus on road infrastructure development is expected to boost economic growth, improve living standards, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents.
Despite the progress made, challenges still exist in the province's road infrastructure. Poor road conditions, inadequate maintenance, and lack of funding are some of the issues that need to be addressed. However, with the government's commitment to infrastructure development and the involvement of the private sector, there are opportunities for improvement.
Effective leadership is crucial in driving infrastructure development and service delivery. Premier Ramathuba and MEC Rachoene's visit to the Greater Letaba Municipality demonstrates their commitment to ensuring that the province's infrastructure needs are met. Their leadership will play a significant role in shaping the future of road infrastructure in Limpopo.
The visit by Premier Ramathuba and MEC Rachoene to the Greater Letaba Municipality highlights the government's commitment to addressing service delivery challenges in road infrastructure. Through initiatives like Dikgerekgere and community-centric development, the government is working tirelessly to deliver better services and infrastructure to the people of Limpopo. With effective leadership and a focus on infrastructure development, the province is poised for growth and development.
