LEBOWAKGOMO– He is not sitting behind a desk. He is on the ground, checking every tar and every culvert.  

Limpopo MEC Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure , Tonny Phakana Hlabirwa Rachoene, today led another edition of #DikgerekgereWednesdays with a project monitoring visit to the D4098 Kgwelereng road in Lebowakgomo — one of the 22 rehabilitation projects currently underway across the province.

The MEC, who also serves as ANC Limpopo Head of Communication, ANC Limpopo Provincial Spokesperson and ANC Limpopo PEC Member, was joined by Roads Agency Limpopo CEO Makitha Chesane during the inspection.

And the message was clear: Work is happening. Money is working. Communities are being served.

MEC Rachoene expressed satisfaction with the progress on the D4098, a critical road that connects communities in Lebowakgomo to schools, clinics and economic opportunities.

“We are here to ensure that contractors deliver quality work on time and within budget,” the MEC said. “The people of Limpopo deserve roads that last. Roads that connect them to opportunities.”

RAL CEO Makitha Chesane briefed the MEC on timelines and quality controls, confirming that the project is on track as part of the broader 22-road rehabilitation program rolled out by the department.

As ANC Limpopo Head of Communication and Provincial Spokesperson, MEC Rachoene has become known for his visibility and accountability. #DikgerekgereWednesdays is not a slogan — it is a weekly commitment to be where the work is.

Mmapula Mogale, a resident of Kgwelereng, applauded the MEC’s leadership:  

“We have been waiting for this road for years. Now we see machines, we see tar, and we see the MEC himself coming to check. That is leadership. That is what we voted for.”

Leshoka Mabitsela, a taxi operator in Lebowakgomo, said:  

“These potholes were destroying our cars. Since MEC Rachoene came in, we are seeing real action. He is a hard-working MEC. He doesn’t just talk, he comes to see.”

On social media, community members also weighed in:  

"Dikgerekgere Wednesdays are working! Thank you MEC Rachoene for monitoring our roads."  

"This is what an ANC PEC member should do — be with the people."

22 PROJECTS, ONE MISSION

The D4098 forms part of the 22 rehabilitation projects being implemented by Roads Agency Limpopo to fix provincial roads, create jobs and boost the local economy.

For MEC Rachoene, monitoring is not optional.  

“As ANC Limpopo PEC, as Head of Communication, my job is to ensure government delivers and that people see delivery,” he said. “We will continue with #DikgerekgereWednesdays until every community feels the impact.”

From the podium to the potholes, from the press briefings to the project sites — MEC Tonny Rachoene is proving that service delivery starts with showing up.
