Former ambassador to Cuba, Justice Piitso has launched the 3rd Phatse Justice Piitso Annual Soccer Tournament which took place on the 25th December 2023. The four-day tournament will take place at the hosting venue of Mokgomo Sports grounds at Apel Cross, Masemola Village, Sekhukhune District, Limpopo Province.
The patron of the tournament Piitso said that since its inception three years ago, the tournament has been having a phenomenal impact on the well-being of the local community of Masemola village and the surrounding areas.
“We value sports as an integral component of reshaping the foundations of human society. The tournament has become a mirror which reflects the basic values of our community by fostering human relations and therefore building a healthy community by bringing people from all walks of life together. The basis of our shared commitment to this important community development initiative, has been the very same objectives, of nation building and cohesion. Its foundation is about unearthing talent and the full potentiality of the youth of our community,” said Piitso.
“Through the tournament we have created an enabling environment where every minute of every game has become meaningful. By doing so we are mobilizing our youth to be frontiers of fighting crime and other social ills such as alcohol and substance abuse. In a little way we are contributing bigger than ourselves to the well-being and the future of the youth of our country. We believe that investing in our youth through sports is the single most important contribution to our future of prosperity.”
“We are fulfilled by our common effort to make a positive difference to others and more importantly, seeing others grow as a result of our small contribution. Our soccer tournament is illuminating a far greater sense of belonging and therefore bearing remarkable results for the development of our community.”
Piitso also paid his highest tribute following his partnership with various stakeholders such as Masemola Tribal Authority under Kgosigadi Makgatle Masemola, SABC Limpopo Province, Lepelle Water Authority and others.
“We equally pay special thanks to the management of the various soccer teams participating in our tournament. Indeed, we are thankful of all their efforts to prepare the teams throughout the year for participation in our initiative,” he added.
Meanwhile, the winning team will be awarded with an amount of ten thousand rands, with the second team receiving five thousand Rands and the third and the fourth teams receiving three and two thousand Rands respectively.
