ANC NEC Member Dr Joe Maswanganyi Practices What He Sermonised

Dr Joe Maswanganyi.

South Africa’s decorated consummate political leader former Transport Minister Joe Maswanyanyi has practised what he sermonised that the darkness is never permanent for the sun will rise tomorrow by obtaining PhD in Political Science at the University of Venda.

"It doesn't matter where you come from to achieve whatever you want to accomplish. The most potent weapon is to never subject yourself to trepidation, remain humble and focus in order to reach your dreams.Believe in yourself and remain disciplined against all odds," said Maswanyanyi.

The man born on 14 April 1966 in Giyani in the former Transvaal who grew up in Madabula village in nearby Malamulele emulated Steve Bantu Biko who said it is better to die for the idea that will live than to live for the idea that will die.

The ANC national executive member Maswanganyi who served as the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Finance also holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Diploma in Secondary Teaching from the Tivumbeni College of Education.

Known as “Buti Joe” or "Killer Joe" to his adoring fans within the political circles because of his humility and not being vocal but strategically confronting his political nemesis has become one of the most influential politicians in the country.

The former Teacher who graduated with a Masters Degree from the University of Venda is the force to be reckoned with who served the ANC with distinction. After matriculating in 1988, he trained as a teacher. Maswanganyi worked as a teacher until 1994, when he entered politics full-time. He was the chairperson of the Public Works Commission in 1997.

Later, after the end of apartheid, he completed a Bachelor of Arts from the UNISA in 2000, a Master's Degree in Governance and Political Transformation from the University of the Free State in 2006, and a second Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of Venda in 2016.

Maswanganyi served in the Limpopo Provincial Legislature before he joined the National Assembly in May 2015. He was a Member of the Limpopo Executive Council under Premiers Ngoako Ramatlhodi and Sello Moloto. On 31 March 2017, after two years as a backbencher, Maswaganyi was promoted to Minister of Transport in the second cabinet of former President Jacob Zuma.

During his tenure in the provincial legislature, Maswanganyi was the Deputy President of the ANCYL from 1998 to 2001 under league president Malusi Gigaba.  After that, he was a member of the ANC PEC in Limpopo , where he served as ANC Provincial Secretary from July 2008 to December 2011. He has been a member of the ANC NEC since December.

Living his dream Dr Joe Maswanganyi.

Leading by example...

Joyous Celebrations...
