Banyana Banyana beat Tanzania to honour teammate Jermaine Seoposenwe jogged out in the national colours for a 100th time

In celebration of their teammate Jermaine Seoposenwe who jogged out in the national colours for a 100th time, the South African women’s national team Banyana Banyana hosted Tanzania in the second leg of the CAF Olympic qualifier and beat them 1-0 to advance to the fourth round of the qualifiers.

Captain Thembi Kgatlana's second half goal ensured that Seoposenwe realised her dream through victorious energy in order to celebrate with her teammates and Banyana Banyana supporters.

Desiree Ellis troops are only two games away from jogging out at this year's Paris Olympic Games after their superb performance at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga on Tuesday evening.

Banyana Banyana last week walloped Tanzania 3-0 in the first leg on their home ground in Dares Salaam.

The South African national women’s team will face one of their biggest rivals Nigeria's Super Falcons over two legs to be played between 1 and 9 April where the winner of the two will qualify for the Paris Olympics.

In reacting to her achievements, Seoposenwe who jogged out in the national colours for a 100th time after 14 years said: “It's a privilege and always an honour to walk out for the national team. We've grown in leaps and bounds, and it's been 14 years of me being part of the national team," said Seoposenwe.

"Everyone has played such a big role in my journey in the national teams – ups and downs. But I can just thank God for sparing me this long in the national team, and making great friends, coaches, staff, and the association for all playing a role in my journey.”

"And just continuing to still have that mentality to still be better and still fight for my spot in the team, and still being a part of this winning team is amazing – we've grown so much.

"Coming from WAFCON, going to the World Cup, you could see the growth in this team, and you can see where we're going and what we want to continue to achieve, and that takes a lot of work and determination.

"But, yeah, I'm so proud to be a part of this team and have teammates like this, always there for me, encouraging and pushing me as well.

Legal striker Thembi Kgatlana scored a winning goal against Tanzania.
