Polokwane - The ANC's Head of Presidency, Sibongile Besani, has praised Polokwane Municipality Executive Mayor John Makoro Mpe and his administration for their exceptional service delivery record.
Besani led a delegation of top ANC officials, including ANC NEC and NWC Member Sibongile Besani, Convenor of the PEC Sub-Committee on Governance and Legislature Kedibone Lebea, ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson Mpe, Peter Mokaba Region Secretary Lesiba "Pathfinder" Matsemela, and Peter Mokaba Region Spokesperson Adolph Rapetswa, on oversight visits to several projects in Polokwane.
The municipality has been delivering impressive results, with the Seshego Water Treatment Plant providing over 50% of the township's water needs. The team has also rehabilitated and resurfaced over 10 kilometers of homes, and rejuvenated the inner city with the introduction of BRT stations.
Besani commended the municipality's efforts to address the land question creatively and innovatively, saying it's a testament to the ANC's commitment to delivering on its promises. "Polokwane city has received four consecutive unqualified audit reports, and it's clear that the people are being serviced," Besani said when briefing the media.
The Head of Presidency described Polokwane Municipality as a paragon of service delivery, citing the municipality's achievements as a model for others to follow. "If you want another paragon of service delivery, come to Polokwane Municipality led by its Executive Mayor comrade John Makoro Mpe," Besani said.
Mayor Mpe said his team would continue to accelerate the ANC's mandate of changing people's lives and enhancing them through service delivery. "As Steve Biko once said, 'It is better to die for an idea that will live than to live for an idea that will die'," Mpe said, reiterating his commitment to making a difference in the lives of Polokwane's people. "We are equal to the task and we will not rest until every citizen has access to quality services," Mpe added.
Local resident, Maria Phiri, expressed her gratitude for the improvements in her community. "The new water treatment plant has made a huge difference in our lives. We no longer have to worry about clean water," she said.
Another resident, Thabo Mokoena, praised the municipality's efforts to address the land question. "The municipality is listening to our concerns and is working hard to provide us with land and housing opportunities," he said.
The visits form part of the ANC Service Delivery War Room's ongoing work, aimed at monitoring progress on key service delivery priorities, including water, electricity, and road infrastructure. #ANCLivesANCLeads
