Brazilian gods neglects former players who are facing years in prison over sexual assault charges

The gods of Brazilian football have turned their backs against their players who are supposed to enjoy their soccer retirement in peace.

Robson de Souza known as Robhino who played for Real Madrid, Man City and AC Milan is facing 9 years imprisonment after being found guilty of sexual assault which took place in 2013 while playing for AC Milan in Italy.

In March 2024, Robinho was arrested by Brazilian police to serve a nine-year prison term after Brazilian appeals court STJ authorized his Italian conviction to be sentenced and served in Brazil.

In 2017, an Italian court convicted Robinho of sexual assault in 2013 gang rape of a woman at a Milan night club. This conviction was upheld by the Milan Court of Appeals, and subsequently upheld by Italy’s top court in January 2022. Italy's request for extradition has been rejected by Brazil, because the Constitution of Brazil does not allow extradition of Brazilian nationals.

His fellow countryman Dani Alves was sentenced to four years and six months for asexual assault however  he has been granted bail and will appeal for his conviction.

He joined Mexican club UNAM in 2022; UNAM terminated his contract in 2023 after he was detained in Spain, during a process that resulted in Alves being charged with sexual assault.. He was convicted of this charge of rape in February 2024 and sentenced to four and a half years in prison.
