Johannesburg - The gloves are off in the battle for South Africa's integrity, with AfriForum launching a blistering attack on ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, accusing him of corruption, money laundering, and reckless diplomacy that puts the country at risk of US sanctions.
In a comprehensive report, dubbed the "Mbalula Dossier", AfriForum alleges that Mbalula's actions are not only damaging the country's reputation but also threatening its economic future.
The report, compiled by Advocate Gerrie Nel and his team, details allegations of fraud, corruption, and money laundering, including a dubious Dubai holiday in 2016.
AfriForum is using the dossier to lobby the US to impose sanctions on Mbalula personally, rather than South Africa, under the US Magnitsky Act. The organization is also pushing for Mbalula's prosecution in South Africa, with Nel indicating that a private prosecution may be pursued if the NPA fails to act.
Mbalula's recent inflammatory statements, including calling the US ambassador "drunk" and "racist", are cited as evidence of his reckless diplomacy, which AfriForum says is jeopardizing the country's relations with the US.
"AfriForum and the Solidarity Movement are doing everything possible to avert American punitive measures against South Africa, but Mbalula's actions are making it increasingly difficult," said Kallie Kriel, AfriForum CEO. "He's putting his own interests above the country's, and it's unacceptable."
The report has sparked a heated debate, with some calling for Mbalula's immediate resignation. As the ANC's presidential ambitions face increasing scrutiny, the pressure is mounting on Mbalula to address the allegations and clear his name.
The Mbalula Dossier is a significant development in South Africa's ongoing struggle for accountability and transparency. As the country watches with bated breath, one thing is clear: the knives are out for Mbalula, and AfriForum is leading the charge.
