Premier Phophi Ramathuba ready to govern Limpopo against all odds.
The newly elected first Limpopo female Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has demonstrated her political maturity by not axing her political opponents who were eying for the position to succeed her predecessor Stan Chupu Mathabatha.
Ramathuba appointed Basikopo Makamu, Nakedi Sibanda-Kekana and Florence Radzilani in her cabinet, as MECs for Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Limpopo Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Social Development, respectively who were contesting her for the Premier position.
“She is a force to be reckoned with and she showed her political maturity by appointing comrades Makamu and Kenana despite that both wanted to become Premiers,” said ANC PEC member.
Former Polokwane Executive Mayor and Minister of Cooperative Governance Thembi Nkadimeng was also reported to be lobbied by her partner Road Agency Limpopo (RAL) board of directors chairperson Matome Ralebipi to topple Ramathuma for Limpopo’s top seat. Some ANC PEC members complained about Ralebipi’s behaviour labelling it “desperate and uncomrade” because they felt disrespected on how he approached them. “He needs to apologies to some PEC members including myself. He was out of order and harassing me to support his wife to be comrade Thembi Nkadimeng,” aggrieved ANC PEC member expressed his disgust.
Ralebipi and ANC provincial spokesperson Jimmy Machaka both did not respond to The Azanian media inquiry at the time of going to publish.
She also got praise after heeding to the call of empowering the youth by appointing ANCYL provincial chairperson Tonny Rachoene as Public Works MEC. “She has a good track record of listening to others therefore it came as no surprise when she appointed an ANCYL member in her cabinet. Comrade Phophi is a consummate leader who cares about the youth. Even during Youth Day Celebration, she promised to empower the youth and create more jobs. She has practiced what she sermonised,” said another ANC PEC member who also opted to remain anonymous to avoid being targeted.
The trio senior ANC leaders, Education Department MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya and Social Development MEC Florence Radzilani and Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs Basikopo Makamu all retained their positions while most of Mathabatha’s cronies were axed.
New MECs appointed included Health MEC Masesi Mashego, Sport, Arts and Culture MEC Jerry Maseko, Limpopo Provincial Treasury MEC Kgabo Elias Mahoai, Economic Development, Environment and Tourism MEC Tshitereke Baldwin Matibe and Transport and Community Safety MEC Susani Violet Mathye.
