Limpopo’s economic landscape is set for a seismic shift as the Provincial Government, led by Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, seals a game-changing multi-party agreement with five mining giants to rehabilitate and upgrade the vital D212 road in Sekhukhune District.

The ceremony, held on the sidelines of the Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town, saw the signing of six agreements worth millions, marking a significant milestone in the province’s quest for economic growth and infrastructure excellence.

The agreements, signed between Roads Agency Limpopo (SOC) Ltd and the mining companies, will see the rehabilitation and upgrading of Road D212, a strategic route severely impacted by prolonged heavy mining traffic. This move is expected to unlock economic potential, improve safety, and enhance the quality of life for residents in the Sekhukhune District.

“This is a testament to the power of collaboration between government and the private sector,” Premier Dr Ramathuba said. “The 7th administration is committed to working with our partners to drive growth, create jobs, and improve the lives of our people.”

Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure MEC Ernest Rachoene emphasized the significance of the agreements, saying, “This partnership demonstrates our commitment to delivering quality infrastructure that supports economic growth and improves the quality of life for Limpopo’s people.”

LEDET MEC Tshitereke Matibe echoed the sentiment, highlighting the province’s focus on leveraging mining activities to drive economic transformation. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that our people benefit from the province’s rich mineral resources,” he said.

The agreements are expected to have a ripple effect on the local economy, creating jobs, stimulating growth, and improving access to markets. As Limpopo’s economic engine roars to life, the province is set to become a key player in South Africa’s mining sector, with the D212 road upgrade serving as a catalyst for future development.

Embracing the #DiloDiChenchitje spirit, Premier Dr Ramathuba and MEC Rachoene have reaffirmed the province’s commitment to driving growth, creating jobs, and improving the lives of Limpopo’s people. The D212 road upgrade is a testament to what can be achieved when government and the private sector work together towards a common goal.

As the province moves forward, the people of Limpopo can expect improved infrastructure, increased economic activity, and a brighter future. The R21 billion investment in the D212 road is a significant step towards unlocking the province’s economic potential, and the 7th administration is committed to seeing it through.
