In a spectacular celebration of community spirit and sporting excellence, the Makoro Foundation has launched its flagship event, the Top 16 Soccer Challenge, under the stewardship of its founder, John Makoro Mpe.
As the ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson and Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality, Mayor Mpe has consistently championed initiatives that uplift the youth and foster a culture of excellence in sports.
The tournament, presented in partnership with The Kasi Games Show, is set to electrify the community with thrilling matches, grassroots talent, and inspirational leadership. Scheduled to take place on March 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026, at the Sehlale Happy Fighters Sports Ground in Ga-Molepo, Mamatsha Village, the event promises to be a landmark occasion in Polokwane’s sporting calendar.
The Top 16 Soccer Challenge features 16 talented teams from across the region, competing in a knockout format that will keep fans on the edge of their seats. The teams have been divided into two brackets, with the winners of each matchup advancing to the next round, culminating in a grand finale that will crown a deserving champion.
On the left side of the bracket are Sekakene Home Sweepers, Rangata Sports Development, Tshebela FC, Rampuru FC, Amazion FC, Theology FC, Seshego XI, and Sehlale All Stars. The right side features Mahlanya FC, Mararas FC, Kaizer XI FC, Mogononong FC, Left and Right FC, Young Person FC, Sehlale Happy Fighters, and Makubung United. Each team is eager to claim the coveted trophy and bragging rights.
Mayor Mpe, the driving force behind the Makoro Foundation, emphasizes that the tournament is more than just a sporting event. “With the Top 16 Soccer Challenge, we’re not just playing football; we’re building futures, strengthening communities, and celebrating Polokwane’s spirit,” he said. “The Makoro Foundation’s initiative reflects my commitment to inspirational leadership and community growth.”
The event is expected to have a profound impact on the community, promoting healthy lifestyles, local pride, and social cohesion. The tournament is proudly sponsored by Betta Bets, MRAYR, Sunbake, SCIRE, Park Inn, FARPost, and PMR, who share the foundation’s vision of empowering communities through sports.
As the tournament approaches, fans are buzzing with excitement, sharing their predictions and support on social media with the hashtags #FeelTheVillageLifestyle and #DiskiYaMagaeng.
