The Makoro Foundation, forged by the consummate leader John Makoro Mpe—ANC Peter Mokaba Regional Chairperson and Executive Mayor of Polokwane Municipality—has declared March 2026 a month of unforgettable community celebration.
Inspired by the vibrant billboard announcing “The Month of March Belongs to Makoro Activities,” the foundation is set to host three thrilling events that will ignite the spirit of Polokwane and its surrounding villages.
From 7th to 28th March 2026, the community will experience a cascade of excitement beginning with the Top 16 Soccer Challenge, a knockout tournament that brings together sixteen local teams battling for glory at the Sehlale Happy Fighters Sports Ground in Ga‑Molepo, Mamatsha Village. The soccer challenge showcases raw talent, fierce competition, and the foundation’s commitment to youth development through sport.
Mid‑month, the streets will pulse with rhythm as the Music Festival unfolds, celebrating local artists and cultural heritage. The festival offers a platform for musicians to shine, fostering unity and entertainment for all ages, and reinforcing Mayor Mpe’s vision of enriching community life through the arts.
Capping off the month’s festivities is the Makoro Village Marathon, featured on the billboard with energetic runners in action. The marathon invites participants of all abilities to run through the village, promoting health, endurance, and community spirit. The event embodies the foundation’s mission to inspire active lifestyles and social cohesion.
Mayor John Makoro Mpe, driving force behind these initiatives, emphasizes that the March activities are a testament to his leadership in empowering communities. “The Makoro Foundation’s March programme is about bringing people together through sport, music, and fitness, shaping a brighter future for our youth and celebrating our shared heritage,” he declares.
The events are proudly sponsored by Park Inn, Betta Bets, Sunbake, SCIRE, and other partners whose support ensures world‑class organization and memorable experiences. Social media buzz surrounds the campaign with hashtags echoing the excitement of the village lifestyle.
As March unfolds, the Makoro Foundation’s programme will leave an indelible mark on Polokwane, blending athletic prowess, artistic flair, and communal energy into an awesome celebration of life. The community eagerly anticipates witnessing history in the making, inspired by the legendary leadership of John Makoro Mpe.
