EFF leader Julius Malema EFF guns for his former ally MK Party leader Jacob Zuma.
EFF leader Julius Malema delivered a scathing critique of Jacob Zuma and his MK Party, urging South Africa's youth to reject old leadership and embrace a new era of progressive politics.
Speaking at the EFF's Youth Day rally in KwaZulu-Natal's King Zwelithini Stadium, Malema slammed Zuma's party, saying, "Comrades, you cannot lose power to an old man and say Zuma is the future. How can the old be the future?"
Malema's criticism centered on Zuma's track record as president, questioning why he didn't deliver on jobs and land reform during his tenure. "He never gave us jobs, and says he can give us jobs now. Now he says he will give you land. Why didn't he give you land when he was the president of South Africa?" Malema asked, urging young people not to believe "simple lies".
Malema also condemned tribalism, warning against reducing KwaZulu-Natal to a "tribalistic province". He criticized the MK Party's performance in the province, where they received 45% of the vote in the 2024 elections, saying they have done nothing since then. "What are they doing with that 45 percent? They are worse. They are not doing anything here in KZN," Malema stated.
Malema called on the youth to reject old leadership and take charge of South Africa's future. "The youth at universities cannot allow themselves to be led by the old. The old must retire and the new must emerge and take over South Africa," he emphasized.
He criticized the MK Party's performance in KZN, saying they are "worse" and "not doing anything". Malema slammed the MK Party's parliamentary representatives, calling them "useless" and saying they are not delivering. "You must tell them when you see them that you are useless. We tried you and you are not delivering," he said.
He mocked MKP's Papa Penny, saying voting for MK is like voting for a "clown" not fit for parliament. "When you vote for MK, you are voting for Peni Peni, the guy is just a clown. He's not supposed to be in parliament," Malema stated.
Malema positioned the EFF as a voice for the working class and youth, emphasizing the party's commitment to fighting for their rights. "This organization is an organization of farm workers, petroleum attendants, domestic workers, and students. Defend the EFF. When you defend the EFF, you are defending the land of our ancestors," he said. Malema also praised EFF members for keeping the party alive, stating, "We are not scared of war, sizofela empini (we will die in war)".
Malema's speech highlights the growing divide between the EFF and MK Party, with both parties vying for support from South Africa's youth. The EFF's emphasis on progressive politics and youth leadership may resonate with young people disillusioned with traditional leadership. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how Malema's message will impact the EFF's popularity and influence.
