The African National Congress (ANC) is facing a perfect storm of corruption allegations, with its national executive committee (NEC) warning that no one implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is "untouchable".
The party's Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, has vowed that anyone found to have erred will face consequences, even if it means taking action before the commission concludes its work.
The ANC's integrity commission has been ordered to track testimony at the Madlanga Commission and Parliament's ad hoc committee probing police corruption, with Mbalula emphasizing the party's commitment to cleansing itself.
The move comes as former and current police ministers, Bheki Cele and Senzo Mchunu, face scrutiny over corruption allegations.
The ANC's stance is seen as an attempt to demonstrate its commitment to accountability, but critics argue it's too little, too late. The party is under pressure to act decisively, with opposition parties and the public demanding transparency and justice.
As the ANC struggles to keep its head above water, one thing is clear: the stakes are high, and the party's reputation hangs in the balance. Will the ANC emerge from this crisis stronger and more accountable, or will it succumb to the weight of corruption allegations? Only time will tell.
