Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has cast doubt on Floyd Shivambu's ability to boost the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party's performance in the National Assembly.

Shivambu, who defected from the EFF to the MK Party in 2024, was recently removed as the party's secretary-general following his contentious visit to fugitive prophet Shepherd Bushiri's church in Malawi.

Malema, speaking in Pretoria North, dismissed any notion that Shivambu's redeployment to Parliament would yield positive results for the MK Party. "I don't work with Floyd anywhere – Parliament, soccer match, or anything. I don't want to involve myself. Aya kwini yena, so it's not our problem."

Malema's comments underscore the deep-seated tensions between the two former allies. Despite Shivambu's decade-long experience in Parliament, Malema remained unconvinced that he would make a meaningful impact. "If you're saying this person is going to be a holy spirit and boost the MK Party's presence in those committees, it's practically impossible. He cannot match the kind of leadership that we have deployed."

Malema's confidence in the EFF's own leadership is palpable, and he clearly believes that Shivambu's efforts will fall short. Shivambu, on the other hand, has accepted his redeployment and promised to play a meaningful role in Parliament. However, Malema's skepticism raises questions about the MK Party's ability to capitalize on Shivambu's experience and expertise. As the MK Party navigates the complexities of Parliament, only time will tell if Shivambu's redeployment will yield the desired results.
