Mayor Maila Walks The Talk

The executive Mayor of Fetakgomo Tubatse Local Municipality (FTLM), Eddie Maila has kept his promise of accelerating service delivery to the community without trepidation.

Under his leadership his municipality recently appointed four contractors to construct internal roads in the municipality. The four contractors were first appointed in June 2023, and they have promised to complete their jobs on time.

In silencing his critics earlier, November 15, Mayor Maila visited the projects for site inspection to ensure that all plans of constructing proper roads will make sure that motorists are comfortable and enjoying driving pleasure within the municipality.

He received thumbs up from members who couldn’t stop applauding him for his governance. “He leads by example, we applaud his leadership. He is our Mayor who is equal to the task,” Thabang Sekhukhune from Tubatse.

Monare Mphahlele from Lebowakgomo said: “I relocated to Tubatse for greener pasture with my family after getting a job. My wife wasn’t happy but after this developments, she was convinced that our municipality is equal to the task. The economy of Tubatse is fast developing under Mayor Maila.”

An EFF member Lucas Sebola said: “We must just put our differences aside. Reality is that Mayor Maila is a hardworker. Truth be told. Service delivery is potent and imperative.”

The roads being upgraded are the Mashung Internal road A and B as well as Magakala road A and B. The contractors tasked with erecting the four roads are Ngaoto le Nareadi Construction, Tushcor Holdings, Velekuhle General Trading and Baphalaborwa Construction.

Locals were assured by Tushcor Holdings’s Owa Ankapule they will meet the deadline of completing the projects by April 2024. “We are behind schedule due to the recent rains but we promise locals and the FTLM that these projects will be completed on time,” they committed/

A contractor Mtho Moyo said: “We had challenges as some of our machineries and equipment are still at other sites, but we will collect them and we will strive to complete these projects on time. The four contractors have empowered local businesses around the villages

and we have employed locals.”

Mayor Maila said the projects are part of the council's commitment to upgrading the road infrastructure network of the municipality to make it safer for the community.

“I’m content with the progress and quality of the work on road upgrading and

rehabilitation projects. I also urge the contractors to work with speed and meet set deadlines so that the residents can soon access their new roads,” said Maila.

He said however the road network constitutes the core of the municipality’s

Infrastructure maintenance priorities as they are critical for connecting different

parts of FTLM, and they contribute greatly to the economic growth and provide

social benefits to locals.

“Road infrastructure is of vital importance to make our municipality grow and

develop, and also in providing access to employment, social, health and education

services making a road network crucial in fighting against poverty,” said the

Mayor.

Maila said the municipality will leave no stone unturned to monitor progress on all their projects.

“We have to monitor all our projects to avoid disappointments. We will once again

spent money to ensure local people get services.

The FTLM administration will continue to spend the Municipal Infrastructure

grant (MIG).

“This is proof that FTLM intends to bring services to the people. We

want to see our people accessing services. In fact, our vision is to transform

Burgersfort into one of the cities in Mzansi and to see the local economy flourish.”

The contractors confirmed that all projects have created job opportunities in these areas as locals have been employed at each site.
