Mayor Molala Gives Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality Major Economic Boost

Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality Mayor Dr Merriam “Mologadi” Molala has received thumbs up from various members of the community following her mission of boosting the local economy through her initiative of Local Economic Development (LED) forums.

Her Smart Town concept known to many as “Leave no one behind” will emancipate communities from innumerable forms of depression as it accelerates opportunities to various entrepreneurs.

Dr Molala who has already improved the municipal purse following the Auditors General report has invited investors in the province and countrywide to create employment prospects which will give birth to overabundance skills transferral. “We can never claim freedom if we don’t improve the lives of the community. We must open doors to local business. The greatest weapon is to create more prospects for our people than to create a dependent society. We will continue to accelerate service delivery to our people. We must never forget that our mandate is to improve the lives of our people. We must also ensure that our economy is enhanced,” said Dr Molala.

LED forum specialises in different categories, Information and Communications Technology or Technologies (ICT) and Property Development. The forum focuses on Agro-processing which refers to the value chain actions that may either be nutritional, technological and/or economic that primary agriculture products undergo for alterations into usable items such as food, fibre, fuel and industrial raw material.

“She is a consummate leader with a beautiful mind. I put it to you that the business communities in Lepelle Nkumpi Local Municipality are enthused and mesmerised by Dr Molala’s transparency and intelligence,” said Thabo Mphahlele, a local businessman.

Mokgadi Ledwaba, a local farmer said: “She is a consummate leader who leads by example and she is equal to the task. We have seen her work and in her leadership we trust. Under her leadership the municipality also completed a project in ward 21 Dithabaneng and disaster project in ward 15.”

With the development CBD of Lebowakgomo sitting on 15% only the municipality has set aside a budget to develop it to its full potential. The three-year development project focussing on the CBD development is already out on tender. The CBD was approved in 1982 in a plan of making Lebowakgomo a town, indeed Dr Molala is turning things around as the new Sherrif in town geared to accelerate service delivery within the municipality.

The community is now benefiting from her academic badges after she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration from the University of Gideon Robert. Her study focused on 'Smart Municipality as a catalyst for business process engineering and economic development'. 

Dr Molala adhered to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s call of accelerating service delivery without trepidation by putting people first and practising the spirit of Ubuntu.

Her efforts were recognised by the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) which awarded Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality for achieving an Unqualified Audit Opinion and Most improved audit performance for the 2022/2023 Financial Year.

Lepelle Nkumpi Municipality’s profound financial management upgraded significantly compared to the 2021/2022 Financial Year audit outcome which demonstrated that indeed the greatest weapon is to be disciplined and practice what you sermonise.

Meanwhile, Dr Molala earlier wished grade 12 learners and pupils well as they write exams to become future leaders countrywide and globally. She recently visited Kopano Secondary School in Lebowakgomo Zone S to motivate them.  The Matric Class of 2023 achieved 96.4%. "You are the future of tomorrow. Study hard and you'll benefit from your sacrifices. Good luck to your exams and be strong and courageous. This year’s Matric Class must try to achieve more than the previous the Matric Class of 2024 which achieved 96.4%. I’m confident that you will get 100% pass rate," Dr Molala said.
