“No one must be left behind” — Limpopo CoGHSTA MEC drives collaboration for faster delivery

SEKHUKHUNE– Recently, the people of Sekhukhune District felt the presence of government that listens, government that acts, and government that delivers. At the center of that presence was Limpopo MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Mr Basikopo Makamu.
Joined by national and provincial leadership, MEC Makamu spearheaded a Ministerial Oversight and Support Outreach Programme focused on cutting through red tape and addressing service delivery bottlenecks across the district.
The message was simple and direct: planning must match action, and budgets must match needs.
MEC Makamu was joined by Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Dickson Masemola, and the District Development Model Champion for Sekhukhune, Deputy Minister Stan Mathabatha. Together, they engaged municipalities, traditional leaders and communities to ensure that all spheres of government are aligned.
Welcoming Cabinet’s commitment to the District Development Model, MEC Makamu reaffirmed Limpopo Province’s unwavering support for the vision. He emphasized that coordinated governance is the only way to accelerate service delivery and improve the lives of communities.
“As Limpopo, we have pledged our unwavering support for this vision, which seeks to strengthen collaboration and ensure that government responds effectively to the needs of our people,” MEC Makamu said.
For the MEC, the DDM is not just a policy. It is a promise to residents that their water, roads, housing and electricity projects will no longer be delayed by confusion between national, provincial and local government.
The pictures from the outreach tell the story of a leader who is present. MEC Makamu was seen addressing stakeholders at a podium in Sekhukhune, engaging with technical reports and outlining clear expectations for municipalities. Later, he arrived on site ready to work, stepping out to meet officials and community members face to face.
This is the Makamu approach: dignity in office, but boots on the ground. No distance between leadership and the people.
His presence sent a strong signal to municipal officials that oversight is real, and that excuses will no longer be accepted when communities are suffering.
The focus of the outreach was to identify blockages in infrastructure projects and to agree on immediate interventions. From human settlements to municipal planning, the MEC made it clear that the 7th Administration is committed to one principle: Leave No One Behind.
Under MEC Makamu’s guidance, CoGHSTA is working to ensure that municipalities in Limpopo have the support, skills and systems to spend their budgets properly and deliver services on time. The goal is to turn plans on paper into taps with water, houses with roofs, and roads that connect communities.
MEC Makamu has positioned CoGHSTA as the department that holds the center together. By working closely with Deputy Ministers, mayors, and traditional leaders, he is ensuring that Sekhukhune and the rest of Limpopo move forward as one.
“#LetsGrowLimpopoTogether is not a slogan,” the MEC said. “It is a call to action for all of us in government to pull in one direction for the benefit of our people.”
From Polokwane to Sekhukhune, the directive from MEC Makamu is consistent: plan better, spend wisely, monitor closely, and deliver with speed.
In a province as vast as Limpopo, service delivery challenges require a leader who understands both policy and people. MEC Basikopo Makamu is proving to be that leader.
Through collaboration, oversight and a relentless focus on results, he is ensuring that the District Development Model becomes more than a meeting. It becomes classrooms, clinics, houses and jobs.
For the people of Sekhukhune, the visit of MEC Makamu was more than an oversight. It was hope that government is finally working as one team, for one people.
