BA-PHALABORWA– Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Tonny Rachoene was on the ground in Ba-Phalaborwa today, leading from the front as part of the Provincial Service Delivery Week.

Armed with gumboots and a no-excuses approach, the MEC personally monitored teams of Dikgerekgere as they delivered real work across Namakgale, RAL rehabilitation sites, and Mashishimale.

“We are today in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipal areas, as part of the Provincial Service Delivery Week,” Rachoene said. “Teams of Dikgerekgere are deployed in various areas servicing our communities.”

The MEC’s day started early in Namakgale, where provincial teams were patching potholes that have frustrated motorists and taxi operators for months.

He then proceeded to a RAL rehabilitation programme site, checking the quality of work and timelines to ensure value for money.

The MEC concluded his monitoring in Mashishimale, where teams were busy regravelling a critical connecting road to improve access for residents, farmers, and scholars.

“I have started monitoring the work in Namakgale where our teams were patching potholes, proceeded to a RAL rehabilitation programme and concluded in Mashishimale where the team is regraveling a connecting road,” Rachoene said.

The deployment forms part of the province’s #DikgerekgereWednesdays initiative — a direct response by the 7th Administration to take government to the people and fix what’s broken, fast.

For Rachoene, it’s about accountability.

“Service delivery must be seen, not just talked about,” the MEC told community members who gathered to watch the work. “When we say we are working, Ba-Phalaborwa must feel it on their roads.”

Residents in Namakgale welcomed the intervention, saying potholes had become a danger to vehicles and pedestrians. In Mashishimale, community leaders praised the regravelling of the connecting road, saying it will cut travel time and costs for families.

This hands-on approach has become the trademark of MEC Rachoene since taking office. Instead of waiting for reports in boardrooms, he is taking the department to communities every week.

“#DikgerekgereWednesdays is not a slogan,” Rachoene said. “It is a promise. It means our teams are out, our machines are working, and our people are being served.”

The Ba-Phalaborwa deployment is one of several across the province this week as the Limpopo Government intensifies service delivery under the banner of #ServiceDeliveryWeek and #MandelaMonth2026.

For the people of Ba-Phalaborwa, the message was clear: Government is here, government is working, and government is fixing the roads.
