MOGALAKWENA– Limpopo MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure Tonny Rachoene won high praise from Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba this week after leading a rapid response team to repair flood-damaged roads in Mogalakwena under the province’s flagship #DikgerekgereWednesdays programme.

Premier Ramathuba personally joined MEC Rachoene on the D3525 and D4380 route from Machikiri to Mapela to inspect progress. The roads had been washed away by recent floods, cutting off villages and disrupting daily life for thousands of residents.

“Our Premier came to have first hand experience on the work our teams are doing in communities across the province,” said MEC Rachoene, who has made on-site oversight a hallmark of his tenure. “Under #DikgerekgereWednesdays, we are not waiting. We are on the ground, fixing what matters to people.”

The Premier’s visit was a clear show of confidence in Rachoene’s approach. Standing at the repair site, Dr Ramathuba commended the department’s speed and visibility.

“MEC Rachoene and his teams are delivering where it counts. #DikgerekgereWednesdays is about restoring dignity through service delivery, and what I see here in Mogalakwena is exactly that,” she said.

The D3525 and D4380 roads are vital arteries for learners, farmers, and emergency services in Mapela. Provincial engineers and contractors are now working to rebuild gravel layers, strengthen drainage, and install culverts to withstand future rains.

MEC Rachoene said the initiative reflects a new standard of accountability in Limpopo. “Communities don’t want speeches. They want roads they can use. That is why we are out here every Wednesday, with boots on the ground and machines working,” he said.

Residents welcomed both leaders, noting that the swift response had renewed hope after weeks of isolation.

With Premier Ramathuba’s public backing, MEC Rachoene’s #DikgerekgereWednesdays is fast becoming a defining feature of the provincial government’s commitment to visible, responsive service delivery across Limpopo.
