The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, led by MEC Susana Violet Mathye, has stepped in to offer support to the Mathebula family in Bela Bela.
The family, consisting of 8 children, had been living in a shack in an informal settlement after their father's violent demise and their mother's subsequent struggle with depression.
The department's intervention came as a ray of hope for the family. The mayor of Bela Bela, Cllr Gloria Seleka, has undertaken to provide the family with an RDP house as soon as the area is fully developed by COGHSTA. Additionally, the department collected donations for the family, including non-perishable food, clothes, sanitary pads, and mattresses.
The Department of Correctional Services also contributed to the family's well-being by donating vegetables from their facilities in the area and seedlings for the family to grow their own vegetables. Kopano Bus Services provided the family with overnight accommodation at a nearby holiday resort while their home was being fixed.
MEC Mathye's leadership and commitment to serving the community have made a significant difference in the lives of the Mathebula family. The family's future looks brighter, and they now have a chance to rebuild their lives with the support of the department and other stakeholders.
