Tshwane’s roads are telling a new story, and MMC for Roads and Transport Cllr Tlangi Mogale is holding the pen.

The City marked a major milestone with the official opening of K147 Zwavelpoort Road, the new link between Atterbury Road Extension and Garstfontein Road K50.

Standing alongside the City of Tshwane COO, department officials and Balwin Group partners, MMC Mogale cut the ribbon on a project years in the making. The road immediately eased congestion, shortened commute times, and opened reliable access for businesses that lost money and hours to traffic and vehicle damage.

For Zwavelpoort families, the change was felt before the speeches ended. Parents spoke of getting mornings back as school runs became shorter.

Motorists described relief at no longer budgeting for monthly tyre replacements. Traders said customers who once turned back at traffic jams could now reach their doors. The message from the community was clear: after years of waiting, the City delivered a road that works.

Two weeks earlier, MMC Mogale was in Ga-Rankuwa Zone 4, Ward 31, for a different kind of milestone. She walked the streets with elders and youth before officially opening Phase 2 of the Internal Roads and Stormwater Upgrade. She began her address with gratitude for the community’s patience, then cut the ribbon on safer streets and proper drainage designed to end seasonal flooding.

In Ga-Rankuwa, the impact was just as immediate. Residents spoke of sleeping peacefully through summer rains for the first time in years. Parents described children walking to school without dodging cars or wading through water.

The presence of the MMC herself, standing in the dust with the community instead of sending a representative, was noted as a sign of respect. After many plans and promises, residents said this time they received tar, pipes, and a road built to last.

From Zwavelpoort’s new artery to Ga-Rankuwa’s upgraded streets, MMC Tlangi Mogale is converting council plans into pavement. One project restores time lost to traffic. The other restores safety lost to floods. Both restore confidence that service delivery can reach every ward.

#Bastrata in Tshwane now means more than a hashtag. It means tar that holds, stormwater that drains, and leadership that stands with the people it serves.
