Orlando Pirates gave their departing head coach, Jose Riveiro, a winning sendoff with a convincing 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows in the Betway Premiership on Tuesday evening. The match, played at Orlando Stadium, saw the Buccaneers dominate proceedings from start to finish.
Tshegofatso Mabasa scored the opening goal in the 15th minute, capitalizing on a brilliant cutback from Relebohile Mofokeng to fire the ball into the bottom corner. Bandile Shandu scored the second goal in the 61st minute, slotting home from close range after Golden Arrows goalkeeper Ismail Watenga spilled a cross from Deon Hotto.
Kabelo Dlamini sealed the win with a beautifully taken free-kick midway through the second half, leaving Watenga with no chance. Orlando Pirates enjoyed the lion's share of chances throughout the match, with Mohau Nkota and Deon Hotto testing the Golden Arrows defense on several occasions.
Golden Arrows struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, with Nduduzo Sibiya's curling effort hitting the post being their closest chance. The 3-0 win lifted Orlando Pirates' morale after losing to Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final on Saturday, while Golden Arrows remain in 14th spot, three points above the relegation play-off spot.
