Peter Mokaba Region Applauds ANC voters and volunteers

ANC Peter Mokaba Region Chairperson John Makoro Mpe.

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Peter Mokaba Region has thanked its supporters and members of the communities who voted for the ANC during the by-elections as well as the recent provincial and national elections.

The REC also received a Political Report by the Regional Chairperson, John Makoro Mpe, which reflected upon various key political issues in the period under including, amongst others, the commemoration of Women’s Month, election matters, the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the upcoming 10th Regional Conference.

This was confirmed by the party’s spokesperson Adolph Rapetswa following Peter Mokaba Region Ordinary Regional Executive Committee (REC) recent meeting held on August 3, 2024, in the City of Polokwane.

“The REC appreciated that the Region entered the general elections just 36 days after participating in the Ward 10 Polokwane by-elections. We further had to prepare for the Ward 17 Lepelle-Nkumpi by-elections within a space of 12 days following the general elections. Essentially, we participated in three general elections in a period of less than two months, registering resounding victories in each. The REC expressed a great sense of gratitude to all South Africans who voted for the ANC in the Region,” Rapetswa said.

“We further thank all our election structures and volunteers for their hardwork and contribution to the ANC’s victory. The Regional Deputy Secretary, comrade Masilo Paya, presented the Organizational Report which highlighted the state of the ANC in the Region. He further presented the close-out report of the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. The REC deliberated robustly on all the reports and arrived at key decisions to take the organization forward.”

The Peter Mokaba Region led by its Chairperson Mpe, congratulated President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa for being elected as the President of the Republic of South Africa for the 7th Administration as well as their comrades appointed to the National Executive as Ministers and Deputy Ministers.

The Region also congratulated former Health Department MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba for being elected the first female Premier of Limpopo.

“We further congratulate her for delivering an inspirational address at the opening of the 7th Provincial Legislature on 02 August 2024 in Polokwane. We also congratulate the newly appointed Members of the Executive Council. Lastly on congratulations, we congratulate the newly appointed Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Legislature, Cde Makoma Makhurupetja and Cde Tebogo Mamorobela, respectively, including chairpersons of portfolio committees, as well as all MPs and MPLs. We congratulate all these comrades and wish them all the best in discharging their responsibilities, especially those who hail from our Region,” Rapetswa said.

The Peter Mokaba Region welcomed the Government of National Unity (GNU) led by President Ramaphosa.

“The REC welcomed the formation of the new GNU and believed that it is the best route that the ANC could have chosen under the prevailing circumstances. We note the fact that the ANC never desired to enter into power-sharing but was compelled by the choice of voters.  We further want to reiterate that the ANC is not in alliance with any party except the SACP, COSATU and SANCO. Therefore, the GNU is not an ANC-led Alliance but an outcome imposed by the need for the ANC to provide leadership in the formation of a government for the people," Rapetswa added.

The region also condemned the violence attacked at Juju Valley. “The REC condemns the EFF-sponsored violence against the ANC at Juju Valley during the election campaign. We find it ludicrous for any party to want to declare no-go areas in the democratic era which were earned through blood, way before the existence of the EFF. Thus, we appreciate the prompt response of the then MEC for the Department of Health Ramathuba in ensuring that the wounded as a result of EFF people shooting at our members including the nine-year-old girl gets medical treatment. We have also noted with gross concern recent and recurring attacks by some EFF leaders against our Regional Chairperson. We condemn these attacks especially as from people who are known to lack principle, usually indicating left but turning right,” Rapetswa uttered.

In relation to deployment matter Rapetswa said: “Following the 2024 National and Provincial Elections, some comrades belonging to the Councils of Blouberg Municipality, Molemole Municipality and Capricorn District Municipality were elected to serve in the Provincial Legislature. As a result, the REC after consultation with the PEC Officials, has decided as follows:

• For Cde Kholofelo Lehong to replace Cde Solomon Pheedi as a PR Councillor at Blouberg Municipality and as a Rep to Capricorn District Municipality.

• For Cde Lesiba Matsemela to replace Cde Chuene Malebana as a PR Councillor at Capricorn District Municipality.

• For Cde Thato Motlamobi to replace Cde Paulina Makgato as a PR Councillor at Molemole Municipality.”

Rapetswa confirmed that the REC has started preparations for the 10th Regional Conference and resolved at the end of October as the date for the elective conference, however it will make pronouncements on the roadmap in due course after following internal processes.
