The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo is teetering on the edge of a precipice, its reputation hanging in the balance as public spats between two of its members continue to dominate headlines.
For almost two months, ANC MPL Thabo Mabotja and former EFF leader turned ANC member Jossey Buthane have been locked in a bitter and very public feud, dragging the party's name through the mud.
Despite the ANC's repeated calls for unity and discipline, the situation has only worsened, with the names of prominent party leaders, including Premier Phophi Ramathuba and former ANCYL provincial Chairperson Tonny Rachoene, being dragged into the controversy. It's a mess that the party's provincial leadership can no longer afford to ignore.
The Azanian spoke to ANC provincial spokesperson Jimmy Machaka about the situation, and he confirmed that the party is indeed taking the matter seriously. "The ANC in Limpopo is disturbed about the continuous conduct of both comrades Thabo Mabotja and Jossey Buthane on social media," Machaka said. "It does not do good to the organization."
Machaka revealed that he had personally referred the matter to the ANC Limpopo Provincial Secretary, Ruben Madadzhe, for further action. "The ANC in Limpopo is calling upon all its members to desist from engaging in public spats as it puts the organization into disrepute," Machaka said.
However, Madadzhe's handling of the situation has raised eyebrows. According to sources, Madadzhe is taking a snail's pace to deal with the matter and has been accused of being naive and ineffective in addressing internal conflicts. The Azanian's attempts to reach Madadzhe for comment were met with silence, further fueling concerns about his leadership.
Madadzhe's leadership has been marred by controversy, including allegations of interference in regional conferences and disputes over legitimacy. The ANC's Vhembe and Peter Mokaba regional conferences have been plagued by disputes, with allegations of irregularities and interference from senior party officials.
Will the party take decisive action to address the public spats and restore its reputation? Or will it continue to wallow in its own dysfunction, sacrificing its credibility and the trust of the people it serves? The clock is ticking, and the people of Limpopo are watching.
The ANC's internal conflicts have exposed deep-seated problems within the party. It's time for the ANC to take a long, hard look in the mirror and confront the rot that's eating away at its foundations. The people of Limpopo deserve better than a party that's more interested in infighting than serving their interests. It's time for the ANC to put its house in order and restore the public's trust. Anything less would be a betrayal of the party's founding principles and a disservice to the people it claims to represent.
