The Northern Cape is at the forefront of solar and green hydrogen power projects, with potential benefits extending beyond the province to the national economy, SADC region, and globally.

The province is working to become an industrial hub, supported by traditional industries like mining and expanded through special economic zone development, industrial park development, and major infrastructure projects.

High-impact projects like the Northern Cape Industrial Corridor, R1 billion housing program, and Kimberley Big Hole precinct require innovative funding mechanisms and integrated planning.

A report by the Auditor-General revealed R3.6 billion in irregular expenditure by municipalities in the province during the 2023/24 period, highlighting the need for improved governance and oversight.

The province must address climate change and enhance its readiness to respond to natural disasters. Increasing municipal debt and measures to improve revenue collection are critical areas for discussion and action.

Leveraging key tourism attractions in the province can contribute to economic growth and development.

Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of cooperative governance, citing the District Development Model as a key initiative to address challenges like working in silos and "parachuted development." Structured engagements between national and provincial executives aim to promote efficient collaboration, resolve challenges, and plan smarter.
